Do I need a prescription?
We may evaluate an individual without this prescription but in order to begin any treatment, the prescription must be obtained. It is important to remember that if you are under the care of a physician and require Manual Therapy, you have the freedom to choose which clinic to receive your treatment. Our team are highly trained health care professionals and are well qualified to evaluate a patient’s condition, assess his or her manual therapy needs and, if appropriate, safely and effectively treat the patient.
What should I expect during treatment?
Our therapist will review your medical history and perform a comprehensive physical evaluation on your first visit. Please be prepared to discuss your needs and any pain, lack of mobility or function that you currently have. Dr. Manas Kumar will then discuss with you his findings and suggested treatment plan. You will also develop goals for treatment together. Please allow 45 min to 1 hour for your first visit for evaluation and treatment.
Do I need to bring my X-rays or MRI films?
Yes please bring your X-ray or MRI films and report. Since X-rays and MRI’s do not reveal everything, our team need to know in order to properly treat you, he or she will focus on taking your medical history, conducting a systems review, and performing physical tests and measures which identify potential and existing problems.
Should I wait until I have an MRI before coming to therapy?
If you have already had X-rays or an MRI it is helpful to be able to review that information in addition to the findings during your physical evaluation. However, the physical evaluation will provide the therapist with much more information than the diagnostic studies. Due to the cost of diagnostic procedures, many physicians are recommending a course of therapy prior to recommending them in an effort to more quickly provide patients with faster relief from symptoms.
What do I wear?
Dress comfortably with clothes that allow easy access for the therapist to examine your problem areas. For treatments, loose fitting clothes that are comfortable for gentle exercises and supportive sneakers are often good choices to wear.
How long will my therapy sessions last?
Typically, the first session lasts for approximately 45 minutes. Each session after that may be 30- 45 minutes. The amount of time will be based on your specific needs, and your therapist will discuss this with you.
How many sessions will I have?
Each patient’s diagnosis is different, so together with your referring physician, we will develop a plan of care that is right for you. Your plan of care and number of visits will be determined during your first visit and explained to you by Dr. Kumar.
